INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC FORUM
"RUSSIA — THE ASIA PACIFIC: TOWARDS STRATEGIC ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AND CIVILIZATION-TO-CIVILIZATION DIALOGUE" OCTOBER 9TH 2006, MOSCOW
The Australian Government is pleased to support the International Economic Forum "Russia — the Asia Pacific", which will be held in Moscow on 9 October 2006 under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Business and Entrepreneurship with the support of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, among others.
The Russian Academy of Business and Entrepreneurship is well known to Australia as an enterprising advocate of doing business in the Asia-Pacific region, having already hosted six successful Business Congresses in Australia since 2000. The Academy's activities have positively enhanced Australia-Russia economic relations, and we confidently expect a similar result from the forthcoming Forum.
Australia, as an active member of the Asia-Pacific community, welcomes the opportunity to participate in the Forum and explore with our Asia-Pacific partners the range of opportunities for advancing cooperation in the trade, investment and cultural spheres.
The program outline provides scope for substantive discussion on the long-term strategic direction of Asia-Pacific cooperation including prospects for increased integration, strengthening regional architectures, and fostering relationships between key policymakers and industry executives. I look forward to engaging with representatives of government agencies, international and regional organizations, academic institutions and the international business community.
Later this year Australia will host a G-20 Summit in Melbourne, and in September 2007 we will welcome Asia-Pacific Leaders to the APEC Summit in Sydney. I have no doubt that discussion at the International Economic Forum "Russia — the Asia-Pacific" will produce many stimulating ideas which we can explore further at these two important Summits.
